The most common questions new apprentices, self-buying tradespeople, and program coordinators ask before ordering a TradeReady kit.
Every TradeReady kit is a complete, trade-specific bundle of professional-grade tools — between 24 and 36 tools per kit depending on the trade. Each tool is the same kind of product a working journeyman carries on the job site: a true-RMS CAT-III multimeter for the electrician, a 1/2" EMT conduit bender, an auto-darkening welding helmet, a manifold gauge set and vacuum pump for HVAC, PEX crimpers for plumbing, and so on. We do not list every model number or brand on the public page because suppliers rotate, but we only choose tools that meet or exceed the spec a working tradesperson would buy on their own. Browse the full breakdown for any kit on the All Kits page.
TradeReady sells one tier — the level an apprentice or self-buying tradesperson needs to show up ready on day one. That is not bottom-of-the-bin starter, and it is not a $1,200 union-issue kit. It is the same grade of tools an electrician, plumber, HVAC tech, carpenter, welder, or auto mechanic picks up in their first year and uses for years. If you already have specialty tools from a previous trade (a high-end oscilloscope, a commercial-grade plasma cutter, etc.), the kit might overlap with what you own. If you are buying your first kit for your trade, this is what you need.
TradeReady kits ship as a complete bundle — every tool is selected to cover the work that kit is built for, so the product is the kit, not individual tools. If something arrives damaged or the wrong item shows up, contact us and we will arrange a replacement. For any later warranty, defect, or return questions (after the kit is opened and used), the tools inside each kit carry their own manufacturer warranties — so the easiest path is to reach us, tell us which tool and which manufacturer, and we will point you to the right warranty channel.
Shipping is free to anywhere in the US. Orders typically leave the warehouse within 1–2 business days and arrive in 3–5 business days after that — so plan for about a week from order to doorstep. You will get a tracking link by email as soon as the kit ships. For Alaska, Hawaii, or international orders, please reach out first so we can confirm availability and cost before you order.
Both work. The kit ships in a single branded box, so it arrives ready to gift — grandparents, parents, and family regularly send TradeReady kits to a kid starting apprenticeship, a spouse switching trades, or a graduating high school senior heading into a pre-apprenticeship program. The checkout goes through Stripe's secure payment link, so you enter the recipient's shipping address there (not a separate gift-wrap step). If you want a gift note included, mention it in the contact form after you order.
Checkout runs through Stripe — the same payment processor used by Amazon, Shopify, and Lyft. When you click "Order Kit" on a kit page, you go to a Stripe-hosted checkout page where you enter your shipping address and card details. TradeReady never sees or stores your card number. We accept all major credit and debit cards. After payment, Stripe emails you a receipt and we get a notification to ship the kit.
You can — and for a few items it works. But a kit is not the sum of its parts. The reason a TradeReady kit exists is because a new apprentice or self-buyer faces a real failure mode: they walk into the supply house, see 40 brands of multimeters at 10 different price points, and leave with the wrong tool for the work, or a tool that fails in month three. Every TradeReady kit is curated for one trade — only the categories that trade actually needs, only the tools within those categories that a working tradesperson would pick. The kit runs $199–$249 depending on the trade, with 24–36 professional-grade tools, so the per-tool cost is far below buying the same bundle piecemeal. We also spent hundreds of hours deciding what NOT to include — starter kits bloated with tape measures and pencils drive the price up without helping you on day one.
For programs ordering 10 or more kits a year, TradeReady has a separate wholesale channel — visit the For Programs page for the program inquiry form. Wholesale orders get volume pricing, the option to ship in bulk to one program address, and (where timing aligns) co-branded materials apprentices can take home. We are also in active outreach with registered apprenticeship sponsors — HBI chapters, ABC chapters — and the Trade Schools page lists pilot programs we are connected to. Schools or programs outside those pilots can still order through the wholesale channel, or use the regular retail checkout if you only need a small batch.
